Shipping company Norgas Carriers says the Maritime Court ruling that found the company guilty of a boat crash with a Bahuga Jaya motorboat, is incorrect. Following the ruling, Norgas is refusing to pay Rp76 billion in compensation to Bahuga Jaya. “We still want to discuss it further with Bahuga Jaya,” said Norgas spokesman Charles Freeman on Tuesday, December 11. Freeman added that Norgas has yet to disburse compensation because the company will conduct a loss assessment first. Freeman claimed that the leak in Bahuga Jaya’s hull was what caused the ship to sink, and the amount of compensation being sought was too high. Bahuga Jaya claimed their ship was built in 1992, but according to Lloyd Intelligence International the boat was built in 1972.
